Lennox Industries Introduces Industry's Quietest and Most Efficient
Air-Conditioner; First Built-In Diagnostics System

February 24, 2003

DALLAS, Feb. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Lennox Industries Inc., a subsidiary of Lennox International Inc. (NYSE: LII) has introduced the most quiet and efficient central air conditioner currently on the market, according to manufacturers' published ratings. The new HSX19 air conditioner also features the exclusive Lennox System Operations Monitor, the heating and air conditioning industry's first built-in diagnostics system -- similar in concept to the diagnostics systems in automobiles -- which reviews system performance and alerts homeowners when service is needed.

The HSX19 has an efficiency rating of up to an unprecedented 19.2 SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) -- up to 60% more efficient than other central air conditioners, which means consumers can save hundreds of dollars a year on their utility bills. The HSX19 is the latest addition to Lennox' new Dave Lennox Signature(TM) Collection, a product line that includes the most exciting and innovative products the heating and air conditioning industry has to offer today.

"Studies indicate many homeowners are highly interested in air conditioning systems that are quieter, more energy efficient, easier to service, and more environmentally friendly," says Bob Schjerven, chief executive officer, Lennox International Inc. "Through the introduction of products such as the HSX19, Lennox Industries is meeting this steadily growing demand."

The HSX19 also features a two-stage scroll compressor, the first of its kind. Its two levels of operation -- high for hot summer days and low for milder days -- allow for more energy-efficient operation because the low setting is adequate to meet household cooling demands up to 80 percent of the time. Its high-efficiency outdoor coil provides exceptional heat transfer and low air resistance for more efficient operation.

Energy Star product uses environmentally friendly refrigerant

The HSX19 is an Energy Star product, meeting the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) standards by using less energy, which reduces pollution. Energy Star products reduce energy use by at least 20-40 percent. It is also the first high-efficiency central air conditioner with a two-stage scroll compressor using the new chlorine-free R410A refrigerant, which meets the EPA's most stringent environmental guidelines.

According to independent test results, it would take almost 13 HSX19 units running at full speed to equal the sound from one typical air conditioner. Engineered with exclusive SilentComfort(TM) technology, the HSX19 includes some of the latest innovations to reduce noise, including a patent-pending fan design, compressor with new vibration insulators, a new sound-dampening fan grill, and a Hushtone(R) cabinet.

The HSX19 also features the exclusive Lennox System Operation Monitor -- the first built-in diagnostics system in the industry. The monitor, similar to the diagnostics system in cars, reviews system performance. For additional peace of mind and faster, easier service, it can even communicate with select thermostats with a "call for service" indicator. The HSX19 is also backed by a 10-year limited warranty on the compressor and a five-year limited warranty on all remaining covered components.

"Through the introduction of the industry-leading HSX19 air conditioner and over 25 other new products Lennox Industries is introducing this year, we are providing our residential and commercial customers with the ability to control their indoor environments more effectively than previously possible -- and doing it more quietly and efficiently," Schjerven said. "This is a trend which, as HVAC customers become more knowledgeable about the advantages of energy efficiency, indoor air quality, and quiet operation, will continue to grow."
